Proserpine’s Bower Collage Triptych

I created this collage triptych with toned silver gelatin prints of poppies from my garden. I printed the images in my darkroom and then toned them pink. I adhered them to wood cradle boards and painted the surrounding area with acrylic paints. Then I created gelee plate mono-prints of live leaves and flowers that I cut up and arranged in strips on the painted areas. I also incorporated phrases from the Leigh Hunt poem titled “Poppies”.

Leigh Hunt’s poem “Poppies” refers to Proserpine’s bower. The Roman goddess Proserpine, or Greek Persephone, was in a field of poppies when she was abducted into the Underworld. The Persephone myth has inspired my artwork since 1988.

Created in 2023.

Each collage is 12” x 12” x 1.5” and is mounted on a wood cradle board. Each may be purchased separately or as a set.
